I never intended to write a post about my graduation. When I applied in March it seemed a long way off and so uncertain that I couldn't possibly be excited. As I started my summer of field work for my dissertation last summer I saw the photos from that years graduations it seemed so unattainable.
Every time I thought of the day I felt sick with nerves because I didn't know if I would be able to get the result I desperately wanted. Fast forward to the 1st of June when I found out I'd be graduating with a 2:1 in Geology and Petroleum Geology.
Standing in Elphinstone surrounded by the people I've been studying alongside for the past four year was overwhelming and the most proud I think I will ever feel. It was only in that moment that I realised how hard I had worked to get to that position. From failing to get into university when I left school, struggling with rejection and trying to survive my mapping project last summer I deserved ever bit of praise that day.
The day itself was wonderfully sunny, we got to swish around in our gowns and take loads of pictures with friends. My parents got to come to the ceremony itself and my boyfriend met us afterwards for yet more photos.
After a few hours drinking champagne on the university campus and celebrating I headed to the pub for a few drinks with my family then onto The Light of Bengal for dinner. It was such a perfect day and one that will always have a special place in my heart.
I don't know where my future is going to take me yet but I'm excited to see what is next.
